Battlestations: Midway is an immense action game that drops players into massive air, sea, and undersea battles from Pearl Harbor to Midway. Players command massive fleet attacks and take direct, real-time, control of every plane, battleship, and submarine in the battle.
Battlestations: Midway’s blends intense 3rd-person action with epic, large-scale naval combat and brings to life the great Pacific battles of the World War II. From the chaos of Pearl Harbor, through the Philippines, Java and the Coral Sea all the way to the epic Battle of Midway.
Gameplay lets players take direct control of over 60 different warships, planes and submarines from a 3rd-person perspective. Players can instantly switch to and control every vehicle in the battle.
The Single Player mode features 11 large-scale campaigns with 12 bonus challenge missions. The missions feature amazing detail with a high level of realism with splash effects, reflections and shader.
In either the singleplayer or multiplayer game you can start with a ship, submarine, aircraft, shipyard, airfield or a combination of any of them. You can switch between your allocated or built units in order to complete objectives. Each unit also has it own unique features and controls. For example, using a carrier, shipyard or airfield you can construct planes, ships, and planes (including bombers) respectively. These units can then be used to engage in naval battles, undersea actions or dogfights and bombing runs. One example would be the map "Battle of Samar." The Japanese are to destroy the Allied Carriers, while the Allies have to sink the Japanese super battleship Yamato. The Yamato is capable of sustaining dozens of torpedoes, dive bombs, and direct shell hits due to its heavy armor. However, the Allies have two battleships and carriers, the Japanese only have one. Therefore, the Americans are forced to attack the Yamato together, while trying to maintain air superiority. However, the Yamato cannot fend off all the American planes by itself, therefore requiring other players on the Japanese team to support with their lighter Fubuki and Tone class ships.
The battles in the main campaign include
* Stationed at Pearl - Attack on Pearl Harbor
* Defense of the Philippines - Battle of the Philippines
* Running the Palawan Passage
* Vengeance of Luzon
* Raid on Balikpapan
* Holding the Lombok Strait
* Rendezvous in the Java Sea
* Battle of Tulagi
* Battle of Midway
* Battle of Coral Sea
* Turning point at Midway - Battle of Midway
* Endgame at Midway
worth a download if only for the innovative new way of handling naval forces. And I have not even talked about the eye candy you get along the way
